NINE
Today I shared tea with a couple of old friends. We haven’t been in the same state or country as one another for so many years that I can’t even remember the last time we were all in the same room together.
It was a re-new; a second round at the new. And it was so unexpected and lovely.
At one point Izaab and I were waiting, wondering, if the world would implode or some other major pressure point would appear in the coffee shop. But it didn’t.
Nothing of the sort happened. In fact, it was almost as if the universe heaved a great sigh of relief, and kicked back to share a cuppa and some well chosen words with us.
I like that the old can be new again.
I like that people can widen their step and circle the globe or the country, learning new lessons, meeting new people.
I like that people can get more freckles which makes their face seem new. Or they might change their mind about the best way to chop an onion.
They could come to the realisation that they don’t like tea, or coffee, or weed for that matter, but that’s ok.
I like that you can look into someone’s face and know when they’re about to laugh, because you’ve seen it a bagillion times before. But at the same time not know the story that they’re telling because it’s new. It’s theirs.
And now it’s news to share with you.
Heartbeats for you girls
