HOME
Home is: the house that I grew up in. The city that I grew up in. The parks and bush that I played in.
It is my family: my brothers and I running through the sprinkler when we were tiny tots.
My mum making stewed apples and rice pudding and letting us lick the bowl.
My dad showing me where to plant the tomatoes and where not to plant the basil.
The fact that after a long night out, we can all trudge home and wake our mother (3 blocks from home) and she puts the kettle on knowing we’ll be wanting tea (and vodka).
It is my smiling friends.
My gorgeous gems.
My most treasured beings.
The ones that strive for greatness, that work their butts off, that play just as hard, that are there for the long haul, that never cease to amaze me. That inspire me.
Home is whenever I’m with you.
Home is: the song. That song that always makes me smile, no matter where or when it is played. It reminds me of all things home.
The fact that the line: 'motor boats and waterfalls, alley ways and pay phone calls, I’ve been everywhere with you' is actually a truthful account of so many adventures, makes life seem so much brighter.
Home is: transferable: able to be packed into one small suitcase or backpack and moved over the Atlantic, or down the road or interstate. It isn’t always big.
It isn’t cluttered with high tech things. It’s cluttered with songs and voices and smoke and footsteps and joy. And yes it is cluttered with clothes and teacups, but they are super important items.
Home is: being found. Searching for a comfortable abode that can hold the new chapter that is about to begin. It is just around the bend. It will be home to so many wonderful memories.
It is open doors and keys that hidden obscurely. It is a pit stop for all who need it and a place that can cure the grumps. It is not for locking out but for letting in.
It doesn’t always have four walls, or two walls, or even a roof.
It can be pegged down, parked on the beach, attached to an elephant or up a gazillion flights of stairs.
Home is where the heart is. It is always where the heart is.
I’ll be HOME HOME soon and I can’t control my limbs, I’m that bloomin excited.
BIG LOVE & PEACE
X
