U u
Today is the one day a year that we, as Australians, can bet on heads or
tails legally.
All day, throughout this beautiful country we call home, there
are mega happy, mega drunk people of all ages, screaming HEADS, HEADS, HEADS!
TAILS? TAILS! HEADS! And betting their money away in the most fun manner I have
ever seen. And no one frowns. Everyone laughs.
It’s a 50/50 chance and the
atmosphere could cure the worst case of the grumps no matter who you are or
where you’re from.
When you think about it, life is about taking those chances. And really,
50/50 are good odds in comparison to the unknown that faces us daily. It isn’t
an easy ask; getting someone to risk a fall, a loss, an embarrassment, a broken
bone, a broken heart or just plain pride.
It isn’t an easy ask of yourself. But
we must. We must risk half or most or all of who we are and what we want if we
are to get anywhere.
Because through risk we find strength and maybe even
truth.
Maybe we will find more than we could ever dream possible. And we can
always pick ourselves up if we fall. Or find what is lost. Learn to be ok with
losing face. Have a cast over a bone. Heal a broken heart and mend pride that
never really leaves.
We might find, in betting ourselves that we can do something, that actually, we can do anything.
You might find that you are capable and smart. Innovative
and quick. Kind. Funny. Unique. Worth listening to. Worth fighting for. Stronger than you think.
Taller than you measure. Braver than a honey badger (true story) and
altogether, someone who makes their own luck.
Keep your eyes on the prize, your heart on the line and never, ever give
up. It doesn’t matter if you fall or make an arse of yourself or even both.
Because
you might lose $17 on tails in 2up, but you’ll still be smiling when the day is
done. A risk is something beautiful. And that is what makes life worth living.
Make it matter kids.
BIG LOVE X
