adventure n.
unexpected or exciting experience; daring enterprise
In a
beautiful twist of fate, I continuously find myself surrounded by people who
have a lust for life.
Not just in the way of necessity or because it is
programmed into our genes that to live entails we breathe, drink, sleep and eat.
But because they live in a way that shows they crave something more, something
bigger than existence.
They lust after the furthest corners of the cosmos and
luckily, they let me come along for the ride.
They are
people who aren’t afraid to stride barefoot through the grass or the dust.
Who
dance freely no matter who is watching. They succumb to the pleasure of truly
wonderful music. They laugh as loud as they feel necessary and shed a tear without
trepidation.
They make animal noises to show appreciation.
They ask questions
and listen to answers, are open to change, are free of hostility, are nurturing
of spirit and supportive of adventure.
They take chances, make mistakes, invoke
hope and nurture kindness.
They all have a spark in their eyes, in their
smiles. It says: let’s see how great we can be, all of us. Are you coming?
In life,
we have certain responsibilities that seem to take precedence, for ourselves,
for our family, for our community. Things like money, status and purpose.
But
we also have a responsibility to honor the life we are given. This gift of breath
and blood and bones and guts (the body in which our lives are carried out) is
not meant for a casual stroll through existence.
It is meant for a gush of wild
strides through the realms of exploration and understanding, pushing the
boundaries of what we think is real and good and normal, and finding our true
selves.
The
people around me teach me that there are endless wonders in this world if we
are brave enough to see them.
They remind me that each of us has the ability to
be bigger than we are or have ever imagined we could be. And my gratitude for
that cannot be expressed in words.
So, strive
to be better. Believe in peace. Do not be afraid of love, indeed, welcome it
with open arms and dish it out without hesitation. Aim to know this earth. Try
to make a difference. And go out there to find it, whatever ‘it’ may be.
Gotta
lust for life? Yeah, a lust for life!
