july 13th - big big little

big, a. (-gg-).:
large; grown up; important; of the larger or largest kind or type.

When people measure how happy they are or how well their lives are going, I think there is a tendency for the big things to be measured.
Big plans, big changes, big money, big loss, big dreams, big walls, big trips, big challenges, big love, double big.
But what about the little things in life? What about those fleeting moments that are gone before you realise they’re happening, but somehow remind you that, yes, you are alive?
What about the small steps that get you to greater success? Or the tiny minutes that count you learning something important? I feel like they are just as big as the big things, if not bigger.
One smile.
A well-placed verb. The sound of your best friend saying hello. The tentative shake of a hip on the dance-floor.
A moment of clarity. The warmth of a welcoming hand. When the little green man flashes GO before you even push the button. A gulp of fresh, clean water. The sound of jangling keys at the front door. Loose leaf tea brewing in the tea pot.
A familiar and sweet smell. That moment when you feel water dripping from the ceiling of the bathrrom because you’ve been dancing a little too enthusiastically in the shower, again.
One second of surprise. One knowing look.

My horoscope said: be big and be brave.
I don’t think that my horoscope was intending that I lose sight of all the components that make up my (quite small) existence. Quite the opposite. I feel as though it meant for me to notice the more intricate elements of life and acknowledge them. And bravery? Well that’s just the sneaky little fox way of saying: never give up.
Sometimes life is what happens when a boy is happily walking along; skateboard tucked under his armpit, smile on his dial, whistling a familiar tune.
You gotta appreciate the little things. Sometimes they’re all that matter. Sometimes they’re what get you through.

So don't miss them. Go grab them.
PEACE X
