O o
There are so many ways in which we can be resilient, so many ways in which to demonstrate bravery.
To put on a brave face.
To show courage when others may shy away.
To fight for what you stand for and for who you are and for who you want to be.
To clear the air.
To write a letter that is difficult to write and post it with full knowledge that it will be delivered.
To pack your life into boxes and move far (or near) in pursuit of a dream.
In fact, the act of dreaming is often brave.
To be open to possibilities.
To risk a fall.
To see the light and beauty when the world is a little clouded.
To stand your ground.
To take your time.
To be honest, which is sometimes the most difficult of all.
We carry out these acts for plenty of different reasons. In order to fight off adversity or to get a task done or to prove ourselves to others or to protect those we love/admire/empathise with or to learn the truth.
But mainly we are brave so we can progress.
Because if we don’t push ourselves beyond our comfortable positions of the average, nothing will ever change.
We would never make a difference. We could never help those in need.
We could never fend off the hand of injustice or the whip of intolerance. We would forever be silenced. And alone. With no hope of even the simplest of victories; realising something about our own self.
And so, I choose bravery. And if I fall? I’ll pick myself up, dust myself off (most probably have some tea or wine or both) and try again. Suck it up. Keep on moving.
And know that at least I was true to myself.
Life is too short to spend your time pretending.
We’ve got one go.
Take a chance & surprise yourself.
PEACE & LOVE
