strength n.,
being
strong, degree of strong-ness, independence of judgment
It
doesn’t take much for people’s true capabilities to shine through.
One word,
one truth, a look, a decision, an action or reaction.
In one moment life can go
from asking only that you breathe, are present, are paying attention and are
willing to learn to asking for your absolute all or nothing.
Suddenly,
you could be asked to leap further, bear your soul, risk it all, and how we
choose to deal with that is a testament to our spirit.
My dad
told me something once that echoes in my mind from time to time (and also
through the phone because he likes to repeat it in case I forget, which I won’t
dad, don’t worry).
He told me that instead of making mistakes, we should have
adventures. That instead of feeling like we’ve failed, we should feel
strengthened by our ability to try.
Every
time something doesn’t work out the way you thought it would, or you realise
you’ve made a wrong turn pretty far down the track, or on inspection you
probably shouldn’t have attempted to carry your tea and your breakfast and your
pile of books in one trip, don’t think of those moments as mistakes.
They are
adventures.
Adventures in the lives of all us folk who ponder through the
jungles (both urban and legitimate) of this world. Because adventure doesn’t
always come with a side of open savannah & wild animals, complete with
goose-bump enticing plots.
Sometimes adventure occurs in the act of getting out
of bed in the morning and choosing to be productive.
It can be the adventure of
a new house in a new suburb. Walking on the left side of the road when you
normally walk the right.
Giving yourself a deadline to work for or with.
Having
the strength the say: fuck it, I’m yours.
Challenges
arise & choices are made. It doesn’t matter if you end up 5,000 kilometers
from where you expected to be, so long as you see the beauty and joy in all
decisions even the ones that you aren’t so sure about. Because that is the best
adventure of all: life. And for me, an adventure is much more exciting than a
mistake, so that is the choice I make.
Through
the act of giving my all while knowing I may fail, I find my life completely
chock-a-block full of blessings. And I wouldn’t trade them for all the
treasures in the world. Because those blessings come in the form of people,
lessons and strengths, and are not only a part of my existence but are without
a doubt the most precious of all.
Be
truthful. Be willing. Be loving. Be kind.
And fill
your life with adventures.
Keep the earth below my feet
From my sweat, my blood runs weak
Let me learn from where I have been
Keep my eyes to serve, my hands to learn
PEACE X
